tips & tricks

Talking about sun allergy. Can I use Skinvisibles UV protection without getting a sun allergy?

All our formulas are non-comedogenic and have passed a corresponding dermatological test (SPT: Strip Patch Test). Our Purifist superionized water spray is even hypoallergenic (HRIPT: Human Repeat Insult Patch Test). We always select clean and safe ingredients to prevent any outbreaks.

How do you do this: vegan sun protection?

All our formulas are vegan, we consider this request early on in our product development process. So far we though have not certified our products as in every country there is another vegan association and we would have to go through more than 25 certifications in Europe, alone. We check all raw materials and ingredients of our suppliers in detail.

Sun protection without animal testing? What is your position on animal testing?

Neither us nor our international distribution partners are conducting any animal tests. We see absolutely no sense in such experiments as sun protection products can be tested safely without animal testing.

Reef friendly sun protection: what do I have to pay attention to?

We consciously do NOT use sun protection filters which have been banned in Hawaii as of Jan 1, 2021, or in Palau as of Jan 1, 2020. We create suncreen formulas without Oxybenzone, without Benzophenone-3, without Octinoxate, without Ethylhexyl Methoxicinnamate, without Octocrylene, without 4-MBC and without 4-methyl-benzylidene camphor. We are not using those sunscreen filters as many scientific studies consider them to be problematic also for human beings.

When is sun protection necessary?

Experts advise using protection not only when the sun is shining.

Many ask "why would I need sunscreen on a grey, cloudy day?" But surprisingly, UVA radiation is also very high on an overcast day. On a grey, cloudy day, about 70% of UVA radiation can still reach the earth. UVA rays ("A" as « age ») penetrate deeper into the skin and trigger irreversible ageing processes (loss of elasticity and firmness of your skin, sun spots, etc.).

Does a day cream offer UVA protection?

UVA-symbol

The UVA protection of creams is indicated by a circle with the letters UVA. Check your day cream: if it really does contain UVA protection, you will find the UVA symbol in the circle. However, many day creams do not contain UVA protection. That's why we recommend applying our ultra-light Aqua Sense Fluid SPF50 or our One Drop BB tinted sunscreen over your day cream. Both products offer sun protection with a very light texture but high UVA/UVB protection.

Which UV protection for the face?

Asian women understood long before us how important it is to take precautions and use sunscreen daily to prevent skin ageing. As part of their daily care, they use UV protection to finish off their actual care (even before make-up). This is only possible because Asian sunscreens are formulated so lightly and differently than in Europe. The products combine ideally with a previously used serum, day cream or other care products.

Is such sun protection also available in Europe?

The Skinvisibles Aqua Sense Fluid SPF50 is formulated in a very, very light and watery way, similar to Asian sun protection products, but without critical UV filters. With its pro-layer technology, the fluid offers ideal UV protection for every day. Without being sticky, it blends ideally with cosmetics used underneath and feels soft and light. The finish is matte and an ideal base for subsequent make-up, like a primer. Developed and manufactured in Switzerland, this product meets the very strict European UVB and UVA tests and also protects against blue light, which can cause sun spots if left unprotected.

What helps against impure skin?

The PURIFIST superionised water spray is a soothing acute care product. It polarises the skin surface with positive and negative ions and repels impurities from the skin, making them easily removable without the use of alcohol or mechanical pressure. The skin is cleansed; the results are reduced pores and a generally more radiant (because cleaner) skin.

For impure skin (acne, etc.), cleansing products with a high alcohol content or creams with drying zinc tend to be recommended. This makes the skin dry and taut. This skin sensation then calls for moisture again, which in turn can be a breeding ground for further skin problems.

The technology behind superionised water has been used for over 30 years in Japan for serious skin injuries and is valued for its beneficial effects on health.

Why are microplastics used in sunscreens?

Microplastics in the form of acrylates are used for water resistance as so-called film formers. Without such acrylates, the products would not be waterproof and would run down white in the water. However, there are substitute products with the same performance that do not contain microplastics. Skinvisibles now offers sun protection for the body without microplastics with the SUN CELEBRATOR SPF30 and SPF50 sun cream.

Sunscreen with alcohol?

Alcohol makes textures light and reduces greasy shine. So sunscreen with alcohol is not bad per se, since more than 95% of the alcohol evaporates after the products are applied, products with a low alcohol content are very light on the skin and not sticky.

Made in Switzerland

Skinvisibles manufactures its products in Switzerland because of the country's in-depth knowledge of cosmetics and pharmaceutical products.
